"The spirit of democracy is not a mechanical thing to be adjusted by abolition of forms. It requires change of heart."
Mahatma Gandhi

To better understand this quotation we need to “dig deeper” in the democracy’s history, we need to know what exactly democracy meant back then in the beginning of this called “Democracy era”.
According to the definition democracy is a s a political system in which all the members of the society have an equal share of formal political power (f.e: every citizen have the right to vote and participate in all the political decisions).
However nowadays we face a completely different democracy, all the citizens are being blinded by the higher property corporation and according to Keith Olbermann the democracy is being controlled by the economical power.
What Mahatma Gandhi said was a very deep and philosophical quotation because as we all know no one has the moral values to respect anyone’s opinion. As soon as the politicians reach their goals they forget about every single man that saw in him a “light at the end of the tunnel”.
Mahatma Gandhi was completely and absolutely right when he said that democracy does not consist in all the mechanical things. Democracy is something that comes within the person’s heart and personality because only then democracy becomes something pure and truthful.
And that’s why democracy can only function when the person’s heart is changed for the better, you have to want it in order to have something beautiful and functional for all the society.

                                   Movie Review: Persepolis

With the beginning of the 2nd term of the English class we initiated a theme that is quite interesting for those who admire everything that is related to Democracy.
There is no better explanation for the democracy’s definition than the actual images that our world provides us every single day.
So in order to better understand this thing called democracy our English teacher presented us a movie quite incredible I must say, Persepolis.
When I heard that we’re going to see a movie that tells us the story of the revolution that happened in Iran in the 80’s my first thought was “I cannot believe that we’re going to see such a boring “documentary””, how wrong I was .
I enjoyed watching that movie because is just a different way of seeing what happened during a revolution I had no idea about.
The best part of this documentary/movie is that it’s an animated film which is very catchy and easy understanding.
But leaving all this behing we must point out some very serious actions that were made after the movie was released.
For example many Protesters attacked a TV station over the film Persepolis because according to them the movie insulted the Islam: “The protesters are angered by fantasy scenes in which God is shown talking to a young girl.”

To be honest I’m very happy that the directors of this particularly movie had the courage to create something like this, something that can explain what happened and what was suffered because of this terrible suppression.

Overall I think that is a very good documentary/movie and i was glad that our teacher showed us something of this size.

So thank you Ana Lima.

Module II

Women and Violence in Arabic Countries
I’ve chosen  this theme because although it is an very discussed theme I think it’s important to continue discussing it.
Many women around the world suffer many injustices, but in Islam the muslim women are completely underestimated and mistreated. In my opinion it is one of the world’s unfairest  country for women.
They are not allowed to vote, work and even to drive . What is normal and common for us is completely difficult for them.
I remember one day seeing a video where a woman is being beaten in a public place just because she was wearing pants.
What they did to her was unhuman, just because she wore pants. The first time I saw the video I was in shock, I wasn’t expecting such an ignorance and cruelty.

  Module I

                                                 MOLDOVA
The country that I’ve decided to “investigate” and post about has a magical name which is MOLDOVA.
First of all, before starting to pour out all the knowledge and information I found, I wanted to say that I’m really proud of being  a moldavian person. I have to say that Moldova is a beautiful country, full of traditions and customs. I’m truly in love with my country
Now I can proceed to giving you more information about Moldova.

Republic of Moldova it’s the official name of the country. It’s located between Romania and Ukraine ( a information that I have to give every time when someone asks me where I’m from, interesting isn’t it?)

They claimed their own independence in 1991, after de dissolution of the Sovietic Union. This summer as I walked trough the capital Chisinau I saw a big sign saying “ Moldova 10 ani de independentã” in other words: Moldova 10 years of independence, something I didn’t know (one of the negative sides when being an immigrant).

The official language spoken there is Românã however many citizens speak the Russian language like it’s the official language, It’s actually a bad thing. For example Balti one of the district of Moldova speak the Russian language at a massive number, sometimes is hard to find one person who speak Românã.

Mihai Eminescu is one of the most brilliant minds that Moldova had, he is an national poet  who wrote the beautiful poem “Luceafarul” I advise everyone to read it.

In terms of music Eugeniu Doga wins it all. He wrote the magnificent song  “Moy Laskoviy I Nezniy Zver” which means "My Tender and Affectionate Beast", a classic.

This post that I just wrote doesn’t even do the justice for the beautiful country named Moldova. I hope i woke up your curiosity in order to search more information about Moldova.
The next video gives us just a little taste of the beauty that this country is.

What type of education would I like to have?
Well to be honest, for me it's a difficult question to answer, not because of my lack of vocabulary but because I'm truly satisfied with the education I have nowadays.
Last lesson many colleagues of mine gave their opinion about this theme, mostly saying that we have a poor education and that we follow a standard, which can unable us to make decisions on our own.
I disagree with all that. We are taught to be someone in society. If you think school is   brainwashing you, taking away your capacity of choosing what's right for you, then that's your problem, you let it happen. Yes, school lets us know what's right and wrong and our obligations to society but it is our call.
We have to guide and make our own destiny, we can't blame education for our laziness.

Lost in Translation

We are supposed to make a quick review about the movie, but I have to be sincere. I hated it . I know that it had a great “message” but honestly it was so boring that we didn’t get the “message”.
In order to understand better what I’m talking about you should see the movie. It’s about an actor who goes to Tokyo, felling  all alone there without understanding a word of Chinese and then meets a girl, who spends her entire time in a hotel room. They fall in love, well I have to say that it’s a cliché.  The old story, one married man and one married woman, meet by accident, then they fall in love, following by one heartbreaking separation (as I said, the old story).
Sorry but I can’t be exited to write about something that doesn’t “wake me up” and give me that little thrill to continue writing and give that awesome reviews.

P.S: I apologize for my outrages review; I hope you don’t judge me teacher.

Different gestures in different countries

The reason why I’m posting this is that I’ve always liked to know more about the different interpretation of the gestures that all countries had.
It’s something that fascinates me and I wanted to share this photo with you. It’s funny how one common gesture like “thumbs up” used in a country can be interpreted as an offensive gesture in another country.
