"Nothing can be more abhorrent to democracy than to imprison a person or keep him in prison because he is unpopular. This is really the test of civilization"

- Winston Churchill

I've chosen this sentence because i think it is one of the biggest problems in our society.
When some political figure or important/rich person do something wrong, nothing happens. But when a regular person does the same thing, different procedures are adopted. Maybe the rich only have to pay some amount of money that, for him, there's any problem and the other one will be like, 3 years in jail.

The problem in our society is the discrimination, the difference that the people are treated.

 Persepolis: a review

I think that the film was very interesting cause it had shown us another reality beside ours.
Marjane passed by several problems like the death of her uncle, her friends, the prohibition of the way she could or couldn't dress. And how hard was to live by herself in a different country.
In my opinion, it was also good for the increase of our general knowledge and the increase of our points of view about several themes.

USA immigration and today's discrimination
  • Since 1800s that immigration in USA has increased alot. Immigrants came from many countrys like Ireland and Germany,  England, Germany, and the Scandinavian countries and eastern European countries such as Italy, Poland and Russia. But all this different cultures and backgrounds they are all mixed together (the concept of melting pot) in one big culture, the american culture. All this "mixes" can create a beatiful culture and country but it can create several problems too.
  • It can lead to many conflits, to discrimination, to racism! In our days there are too many reasons for that things to happen. People are discriminated because of their skin colour, sexual choices, their size, if they are fat or skinny, all carachteristics are used to discriminate the others. People can't understand that we are all equal, that we have all the same rights and that we should behave to have a better and peaceful world.

topic 1:
Europe and European languages

Post here everything you have researched about European languages, countries, etc, and also the HWs related to the subject:

I think that the school is not doing a good job to make us know something about other languages and cultures, for example, Russian, Moldavian, etc.
They should make a day to people talk about their own cultures, languages and countries. ( Francisco )

correction:
I think that school ..
They should make a day for people to talk ...

FILM REVIEW: Lost in Translation:

In my opnion, the film is just not about translation and about the (no article) languages, but also about he and she being lost in their own relationships, a lost (wrong form: instead of the adj., there should be a noun) in communication between he and his wife and she and her husband. Finally, i think it's also a lost of their own way to be (the gerund would be preferable..) , way of thinking, of some part of them. ( Francisco )

I'll correct it as soon as possible, Francisco.. Or even better, U could do it yourself .. how about that?:-)  ***
