Statement about democracy
“It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.”
Winston Churchill

I believe the statement referred by Winston Churchill has the purpose to alarm us for our “selective” memory…With this I mean Churchill is talking about the fact that people are always complaining about democracy but they forget that the previous forms of government were way worse. We all have the tendency to criticize what we’re going through in the present because it’s what’s making an impact at the time. Nevertheless, we have to consider what we had before democracy and what may emerge in case it fails. Although people have reasons to complain about democracy, because it isn’t being applied in many ways, we need to reflect and think if we really want to abolish it. In my opinion the only solution is to find a way to make it work, as the alternatives that have already been tried are even worse than our current democracy.

May of 68

The date of a serious revolution in France with the objectives of getting improvements in working conditions, but also the abolition of the old ideals of education, sexual differences and pleasure. This was considered historical for being the first wildcat general strike ever, but also because there were no ethnic, sexual or religious differentials throughout it. More than 10 million workers went to the streets to demonstrate their disagreement with the measures approached by the government. These larger demonstrations started after the Gaullist government has attempted to stop the firs strikes of students with violence and by increasing the number of police forces in the streets. The revolution went to an end when it was near a bigger success and the Gaullist government even increased its strength afterwards, but I think the May of 68 was still an eye opener to the rest of people around the world. Thanks to this revolution, people realized they weren’t obligated and shouldn't live in the horrible conditions they did.

Review on the film “Persepolis”

Firstly, I must say that when I realized the movie was animated I instantly thought it was a way to approach a serious topic in a shallow, funny and easily understandable way… I never thought it would be so “heavy”. Don’t get me wrong, I do agree with the idea of the film, I just never imagined it as it turned out to be. It gave me a deeper understanding of what happened in Iran during the revolution and, even though I knew there existed oppression in Iran, the film made me look at things in a completely different way. It makes us think about our critics to the “ugly” democracy that we take for granted and imagine how our lives would be if we were ruled by other forms of government. There were protests against the film and even if we don’t agree with them , we must understand them. Obviously, there were people who didn’t like the spread of the events because they transmitted a very degrading image of Iran. Nevertheless, in my opinion the directors of the film were already expecting it when they started a film about such topics and I admire them for making it no matter what.
