woman suffering genital mutilation |
Let’s talk about women’s rights in Africa. The genital cutting is a cultural tradition in almost all African countries that is done with the purpose of making the women feel any pleasure in sexual activities and don’t be unfaithful and they are also submitted to a “virginity test”.
That kind of behavior are disappearing and being less common beside that are considered crimes and are punished with some time in prison.
There are laws that passed that do not necessarily have any impact on the lives of people. I imagine this will be one of those.
In Guinea, for example, female genital cutting has been a crime since 1965, punishable by life in prison or death. Beside of the punishment, the cultural purposes are stronger than anything and the women didn’t stop practicing the genital cutting.
In my opinion, beside of being a traditional behavior it’s very bad cause women should have pleasure, that’s like the purpose of the sexual activities, but, it would be impossible to happen for a women in Europe, it would be outrageous. Although I think that is a very wrong habit also in Africa, is a tradition, but it is very painful and violent.

That kind of inhumane infliction is disappearing or at least being less common. Besides, genital cutting is now considered a crime in many countries and punished with some time in prison.
There are laws being passed that do not necessarily have any impact on the lives of people. I imagine this will be one of those.
In Guinea, for example, female genital cutting has been a crime since 1965, punishable by life in prison or death. Despite the punishment, though, cultural bonds are stronger than anything else and the eldest tribal women haven’t stopped inflicting genital cutting to younger female members.
In my opinion, this is a very bad behaviour, no matter how traditional. Women should be entitled to have pleasure, that’s like the purpose of having sex. Such a barbaric act would not possibly happen to a woman in Europe, it would be considered outrageous. Traditions which are that painful and violent should have been banished for centuries, at least since the times when women started to reclaim their rights.
me again.. :)
